Ravensburger release the worlds largest jigsaw - 40,320 pieces!

At the New York Toy Fair this year,  Ravensburger released their 40,320 piece “Making Mickey’s Magic” puzzle celebrating 90 years of the world’s most famous mouse.

• Area: nearly 140 square feet
• Weight: approx. 44 lbs.

World's largest Mickey Mouse puzzle released to celebrate his 90th birthday.

Ravensburger has revealed the world’s largest puzzle of the world’s most famous rodent, Mickey Mouse. The puzzle, Mickey Through The Years, features images of Mickey Mouse over his 90-year career starring in Disney animated features and shorts, dating all the way back to 1928’s Steamboat Willie.

The puzzle is absolutely gigantic, measuring in at 22 feet long and six feet tall. The whole thing weighs a mind-boggling 50 pounds. A puzzle that large requires a massive number of pieces, and Mickey Through The Years has 40,320 of them. Don’t lose one! It’s estimated the puzzle requires around 600 hours to complete.

To make things simpler, Ravensburger has divided the puzzle into 10 frames, and each has its own box. This puzzle is basically a mash-up of the 10 smaller puzzles.

Although this puzzle has not yet come to New Zealand just watch this space....

It certainly does! Assembling a puzzle can truly bring happiness. Searching, finding and assembling and ultimately seeing the puzzle come together is what most people find fascinating.

World's largest puzzle completed again!

Back in December we wrote about the  Philipino puzzle collector Gina Lacuna who now holds the Guiness Book of Records for the most jigsaw puzzles. Well she is in the media again, as she has achieved yet another feat by completing the worlds largest puzzle. You can read more about her amazing accomplishment here.

Ravensburger's 3 D jigsaws

When was the last time someone rewarded you for completing a puzzle? At the 2012 Toy Fair Ravensburger displayed their new interactive jigsaws. The most interactive was the aquarium scene. Entitled "Colorful Underwater World," This puzzle contains a fun look-and-find game. You just have to assemble the 1,000 piece puzzle in order to play it. Once you've finished the puzzle, you can view the aquarium scene through your smart phone, or Ipad,

and the game will begin. The AR app places animated fish in front of the camera's image, challenging you to find the matching fish in the puzzle's artwork and tap the screen where it is shown. As long as you can keep matching and tapping fish, you continue to rack up points. Read more about this new dimension in jigsaws here

Ravensburger's 32,000 piece jigsaw!

Ravensburger Australia are about to release the worlds largest jigsaw 32,000 pieces -called Double Retrospect artwork by Kieth Haring. Educa held the record for the largest commercially available jigsaw puzzle with Life 24000 pieces. But now Ravensburger strikes back! I don't think the image of 32 blocks of symbols has quite the same apppeal to me as the Royce McClure artwork in 'Life', but then if you are a puzzler, and you're up for the challenge... New Ravensburger jigsaws just received

We have just received some fabulous new jigsaws from Ravensburger, including some more many pieces (2000 - 3,000 pieces) ones. These are always in demand, and trying to keep a variety available is challenging.
Here is St Peters Cathedral a new 3000 piece puzzle. And this beautiful floral arrangement is called Rose bouquet, 1000 pieces. I'll show more over the next day or so.

Flokati Jigsaw - Bright Sunflowers

The jigsaw I'm working on at the moment is by Ravensburger, and called Bright Sunflowers. It is so cool! Some of the pieces have a felt covering, so the finished jigsaw has a 3D feel, very tactile. It is fun to do, and so bright and colourful. I've completed most of the flowers, but the yellow ones are proving to be a challenge, I must admit. It has 1000 pieces, and despite the felt covering they fit together really well. I will be very sad to finish it as I have really enjoyed this jigsaw. I haven't decided whether to break it up or glue it together. Decisions, decisions.
