Guiness World record!!

Jigsaw puzzle collector Georgina Gil Lacuna receives her world record certificate
In the mountain resort of Tagaytay City, Philippines, Georgina Gina Gil Lacuna keeps more than 1,000 jigsaw puzzles – all completed by her over a little more than a quarter-century.

Ms. Lacuna, whose puzzles are on display at the inn, now holds a rare honor: crowned the Guinness World Records holder for the world’s largest collection of jigsaw puzzles.
Ms. Lacuna’s daily routine  involves piecing together a puzzle – or five. She has completed 1, 030 jigsaws, and is working on Keith Haring's Double Retrospect. By the time she finishes this in February, Guinness will bestow upon her the record for building the biggest jigsaw puzzle in existence in the world. The puzzle has 32,000 puzzle pieces and is 17 feet long and 6 feet wide. About one-eighth of the puzzle has been completed.

Dave Evans, of Guest Book Puzzles, Weymouth said the jigsaw would be made up of 40,000 pieces and reach 150 sq ft (13.9 sq m).

It will feature a union jack and a montage of photographs of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Dorset.

Mr Evans said he planned to present the puzzle, which he will cut in February next year, to the Queen.

A prisoner files a lawsuit for not being allowed a jigsaw in prison!

A prison inmate in Brooklyn, alleges his First Amendment rights are being violated because he cannot have access to jigsaw puzzles in prison.
The inmate, who was convicted of fraud has petitioned the courts for the puzzles. He states he should be able to order a jigsaw from Amazon.com the same way he can order a book.
“A puzzle does not present any safety or security issues,” he wrote, “and it will be delivered to the mailroom from the publisher similar to a book or magazine.”
“A puzzle presents no additional staffing security for the mailroom,” he added, saying that he would be willing to donate the puzzle upon completion.
The request for the puzzle was denied by Metropolitan Detention Center, because jigsaws are not approved as inmate personal property and can be provided by the recreation department of the prison.
The Justice Department states that a jigsaw puzzle stored and assembled in a cell could cause unnecessary clutter, pose a fire hazard, and/or limit the living area.
Now, the dispute may head to trial, so this will be an interesting case to follow.

Ravensburger's 3 D jigsaws

When was the last time someone rewarded you for completing a puzzle? At the 2012 Toy Fair Ravensburger displayed their new interactive jigsaws. The most interactive was the aquarium scene. Entitled "Colorful Underwater World," This puzzle contains a fun look-and-find game. You just have to assemble the 1,000 piece puzzle in order to play it. Once you've finished the puzzle, you can view the aquarium scene through your smart phone, or Ipad,
and the game will begin. The AR app places animated fish in front of the camera's image, challenging you to find the matching fish in the puzzle's artwork and tap the screen where it is shown. As long as you can keep matching and tapping fish, you continue to rack up points. Read more about this new dimension in jigsaws here

A 'must' read for puzzle lovers

During the Christmas break I enjoyed reading Margaret Drabble's book The Pattern in the Carpet. It seems I’m not the only jigsaw junkie - in her book, Dame Margaret Drabble reveals that when her husband, the biographer Michael Holroyd, was diagnosed with bowel cancer, jigsaws helped save her from sinking into paranoia and depression. Piecing together framed pictures gave her an illusion of control when everything else was uncertain.
A highly recommended read.

Jigsaws as a fashon statement? !

Diane von Furstenberg, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, let the crowd attending New York Fashion Week in on a little secret: Fashion is a puzzle.
She used jigsaw puzzle pieces as a prominent theme of her fall collection. There was a puzzle print on a pink sleeveless dress, and laser-cut pieces on a black embellished one. A model carried a puzzle-box bag. So who said jigsaws were dull!!!
